Sharon Naraghi Farms began with the vision and determination of Hashem Naraghi, an immigrant, innovator, and agricultural pioneer. Born in Iran in 1917, Hashem and his wife, Nora emigrated to New York in the mid-1940s. After a brief time on the East Coast, the family moved West in search of opportunity, eventually settling in California’s Central Valley in 1948.
Starting from humble roots, Hashem worked as a tractor driver before launching a successful egg processing business. He revolutionized poultry production in the region, inventing patented equipment and building one of the largest egg operations in California. But it was farming that called to him most deeply.
In the early 1960s, Hashem transitioned into tree crops and set out to prove that almonds could thrive in the dry, rocky soils of the Sierra foothills, land many considered unplantable. Through sheer grit and ingenuity, he developed drought-resistant varieties (Hashem I and Hashem II), built custom irrigation systems, and personally planted and managed what became the largest individually-owned almond orchard in the United States.
Over time, his farming legacy grew to include almonds, pistachios, walnuts, wine grapes, and pomegranates, cultivated across thousands of acres throughout Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Monterey, and Kern counties.
Never one to settle, Hashem expanded into real estate development during the 1970s and 80s - transforming parts of his agricultural holdings into thoughtfully planned neighborhoods and commercial centers. His developments blended his agricultural roots with a vision for community growth.
Today, his daughter Sharon Naraghi proudly carries that legacy forward. Through Sharon Naraghi Farms, she continues to honor her father’s pioneering spirit, nurturing the same land he once transformed, with the same values of innovation, stewardship, and a deep-rooted love for California agriculture.
